The Los Angeles cut two longest players in a week. Backup catcher Austin Burns was designated for allocation, and utility man Christaylor was released.

The have made it clear that the player’s cut is a business decision in the NL West Race. Both veterans were used sparingly this season.

This season, Burns had .214/.233/.286 with two RBIs, reducing OPS of .518 across the appearance of the 44 plates. Backstop played in just 13 games.

Taylor took 35 plate appearances and made 35-7 appearances in 13 strikeouts this season. He appeared in 2025 in 28 of the ‘ 46 games.

The ‘ decision to say goodbye to Burns and Taylor made sense, but Freddie Freeman explained how emotional their departure was for the team.

“It’s like having a group of guys card on an airplane. Austin was one of them. Now, Kirby Yates is in Illinois. “A lot of people don’t understand. There’s a lot going on. If you lose someone in a year, it stinks.”

Freeman realizes that the reality of baseball is the departure of a longtime friend. But the ‘ top priority is still winning.

“It sucks. There’s no way around that,” Freeman said. “If you say it’s not sad when you lose a friend, you’re not human. You can just go. You’ll be a little sad, but that’s not why you’re 0 at 4 now.”

“It’s difficult. It’s really true. But you know it’s business and you have to keep going,” he continued.

“When you lose two respected veterans in the clubhouse, you need to become a grown boy and understand reasoning. You can be sad that you have lost a friend – you can still be in touch with that friend. But we have to continue.
