Errol Spence Jr. vs. Tim Tzu: Epic Showdown Set for June in Australia, Reports Confirm

Errol Spence Jr. is reportedly planning a return to the ring after nearly three years away. The former unified welterweight champion is set to make his debut at 154 pounds against Tim Tszyu, a former WBO junior middleweight titleholder. According to ESPN, the fight is expected to take place in Australia in June, likely on either the 6th or 13th, though the exact location is still to be confirmed. This bout will headline a PBC Prime Video pay-per-view event, as reported by both Dan Rafael and ESPN.

Spence, who holds a record of 28 wins and 1 loss with 22 knockouts, has not competed since July 2023. His only defeat came during that time in a welterweight undisputed title fight against Terrence Crawford, in which he was knocked down three times and stopped in the ninth round. There had been talk of a possible matchup with WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora, but that fight never came to fruition. Instead, Fundora will defend his belt against former unified champion Keith Thurman on March 28th.

On the other side, Tim Tszyu (26-3, 18 KOs) is also in the process of bouncing back. His undefeated streak of 24 fights was broken by a split decision loss to Fundora. Since then, Tszyu has compiled a 2-2 record, earning wins over Anthony Velasquez and Joseph Spencer but suffering defeats to Bakram Murtazaliev and Fundora.

Spence’s anticipated comeback effectively ends speculation about his retirement following the fight with Crawford, who is himself retiring after securing his third undisputed title in different weight classes.

Fan Take: This highly anticipated matchup is a major event for fight fans, signaling that Spence is far from finished and ready to challenge himself in a new weight class. It promises to shake up the 154-pound division and could set the stage for exciting new rivalries in boxing.
