Brad Binder Anticipates KTM Comfort to Boost Speed at Buriram MotoGP Test

Brad Binder concluded the Sepang MotoGP test in 15th place overall, trailing the fastest time by 1.188 seconds—almost identical to his gap at the same test a year ago. The factory KTM rider is now collaborating with Phil Maron, formerly Toprak Razgatlioglu’s crew chief, and reports a notable boost in both comfort and confidence on the RC16 bike.

“I’ve never been able to do ultra-fast laps, but I’m feeling more at ease on the bike now, making the lap times feel more natural,” Binder explained. “Overall, I’m very pleased with the progress we’ve made in the garage over the past few days. Of course, I wanted to be quicker, but I definitely feel more comfortable. Hopefully, that comfort will translate into improved speed at the next test.”

Increasing lap speed is crucial for Binder, especially considering his difficulties during qualifying last season, where he averaged a 14th place grid position compared to teammate Pedro Acosta’s seventh. “There’s certainly more work ahead!” he acknowledged.

Binder’s best lap at Sepang came on the final test run, using a mix of his preferred parts, though it was still a somewhat new setup. “I felt really good. I tried to incorporate every positive element I could into that last run,” he said. “While out there, I was still dialing it in, so I hope that with more time using the same parts and setup, I can find the final piece.” He added, “I felt pretty solid by the end. I think I could gain more cornering ability, and if I find that, I could push further. Everything is definitely in a better place than last year. Now the team has a few weeks to rest before we head to Thailand, where development can continue.”

The last MotoGP preseason test is scheduled for February 21-22 in Buriram, just one week prior to the start of the Thai GP.

Fan Take:
This update is key for fans eagerly watching KTM’s progress, as Binder’s improved confidence could signal a breakthrough season ahead. If his comfort on the bike translates into better qualifying and race pace, it could shake up the MotoGP grid and offer more thrilling competition.
