Caroline Garcia says she’s retired and plays the final French Open

Paris – Former US open semi-finalist Caroline Garcia, ranked just as high as fourth, says she will retire from tennis.

The French woman said on social media that “it’s time to say goodbye” as she prepared to play for her 14th consecutive appearances at the French Open.

“After competing at the highest level for 15 years and dedicateing almost every second of my life to the sport for over 25 years, I feel ready to turn the pages and open a new chapter,” Garcia said. “That being said, it’s not finished yet. There are still a few tournaments. The first tournament is at home, Roland Garos.”

Garcia, who won 11 titles but currently ranked 145th, will face Bernarda Pera in the first round.

Garcia, 31, first reached fourth in September 2018. After years of inconsistent years plagued by suspicion and injuries, Garcia took a break from tennis in March 2022 and nursed her injured leg. The pause brought dividends as he enjoyed the enormous second half of the season with several titles, including the WTA Finals, and competed in the semi-finals at the US Open.

Two years ago, she revealed in an interview with the L’Equipe newspaper that she had to deal with Brimia for the spell, due to the spell caused by the loss and pain caused by the prolonged leg injuries that affected her daily life.

“My journey has always been not easy,” Garcia said Friday. “From the beginning, tennis has meant more than victory or loss. It was love and hate. It was joy and frustration. And despite everything, I am deeply grateful for everything that this adventure has brought to me. For everything that tennis has given me.
