It has been officially confirmed that a sequel to the F1 movie is currently in development. The original blockbuster, released in 2025, starred Brad Pitt and was co-produced by Lewis Hamilton. It achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success.

Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer told the BBC that the follow-up is now underway. Featuring an impressive cast including Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem, the first film grossed $630 million (£467 million) worldwide and earned four Academy Award nominations, one of which was for Best Picture. Bruckheimer emphasized, “We are working on a sequel,” but did not disclose a release date.

“F1 The Movie” centers on a fictional, struggling racing team named APX GP, who seek assistance from former driver Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Pitt, to turn their season around. The movie was created through a collaboration with F1 and Apple during the 2023 season, incorporating real footage of current F1 drivers both on and off the track. Notable cameos included stars like Fernando Alonso, Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, and Lewis Hamilton himself.

Although opinions among F1 fans were mixed, the film was widely regarded as a major success for introducing the sport to a broader audience. Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, encouraged fans to “look forward to it,” fueling speculation about the sequel’s production.

Fan Take: This announcement is thrilling for racing enthusiasts as it promises to keep the sport in the global spotlight beyond the racetrack. A successful sequel could deepen fan engagement and attract new audiences, potentially boosting the popularity and reach of Formula 1 worldwide.
