Giants manager John Harbaugh is reportedly adding another former NFL head coach to his offensive staff. Brian Callahan — who led the Tennessee Titans for 23 games across the 2024–25 seasons — is expected to become New York’s quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Callahan will work under new offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, who was the Chicago Bears’ head coach from 2018–2021 and is wrapping up a second stint as the Kansas City Chiefs’ OC. At 41, Callahan is joining the Giants after being fired by the Titans after six games last season; his head-coaching record there was 4–19. Before Tennessee, he had a strong run as the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator from 2019–2023 under Zac Taylor, helping Joe Burrow reach the Super Bowl in Burrow’s second year. The Bengals finished among the top 10 in points per game and passing yards per game in both 2021 and 2022, making a Super Bowl appearance and returning to the AFC Championship the following season.

Most recently Callahan worked with another top overall pick, Cam Ward. In New York he’ll be charged with maximizing the skill set of first-round quarterback Jackson Dart, whom the Giants traded up to select at No. 25 last year. Dart showed plenty of upside as a rookie — a compelling dual-threat who also put himself in risky situations — completing 63.7% of his passes, scoring 15 points, and throwing nine touchdowns in 2025.

A former UCLA quarterback, Callahan has coached several high-end NFL QBs. He was an offensive assistant with the Denver Broncos when Peyton Manning threw 55 touchdowns and the team won a Super Bowl two seasons later, and he served as quarterback coach for the Detroit Lions (2016–2017) and the then-Oakland Raiders (2018), working with Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr. That said, his résumé took a hit in Tennessee, where the starting quarterback struggled with turnovers and his offense underperformed.

Callahan now gets a reset with Dart in New York.

Fan Take: This hire matters because Callahan’s success developing Joe Burrow suggests he could accelerate Jackson Dart’s growth, and pairing him with Nagy and Harbaugh gives the Giants a veteran-laden offensive brain trust. If it works, it could reshape the Giants’ trajectory and add another example of teams leaning on proven coordinators to fast-track young quarterbacks.
