Dalibor Dvorsky made a smooth debut at the Olympics, with his performance helping Slovakia secure a notable win. The 20-year-old center for the St. Louis Blues, who was selected in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft, made his initial appearance with the Slovakian national team truly memorable by netting the game-winning goal and providing an assist in a 4-1 victory over Finland at the Santa Giulia IHO Arena in Milan, Italy.

Dvorsky scored his goal on a rebound from a loose puck in front of the net, surpassing Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators at 7:20 of the third period to break a tied game. He also assisted on Juraj Slavkovskiy’s power-play goal at 10:30, contributing to Slovakia’s upset victory and kicking off the men’s Group B qualifying round.

Finishing as the third star of the game despite being a third-line center, Dvorsky had two shots on goal, finished with a plus-one rating, and played for just over 11 minutes of ice time. According to an NHL spokesperson, he became the youngest Slovak player, at 20 years and 241 days old, to score in the Olympics as an NHL player.

Fan Take: Dvorsky’s performance at the Olympics highlights the rising talent pipeline from Europe into the NHL, exciting hockey fans who look for promising prospects. His successful debut also suggests Slovakia could become a more competitive team on the international stage, and it underscores the growing global influence of young NHL players in major tournaments.
