Grade 1 Tokin Could Make a Comeback to Gotham: ‘It’s on the Table’

Talkin, owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Pine Racing Stables, Legend Thoroughbreds, Belmar Racing and Breeding, and RA Hill Stables, has not raced since finishing a distant ninth in the nine-furlong Grade 2 Remsen on December 6. However, trainer Danny Gargan mentioned that Talkin might make a comeback in the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes, a $300,000 race at Aqueduct Racetrack on February 28.

“We’re back to one turn, and you never know who might show up,” Gargan said about the Gotham, a Grade 1 Kentucky Derby qualifying race with a points structure of 50-25-15-10-5. “It’s definitely a possibility.”

Talkin broke his maiden in August at Saratoga Race Course, winning a seven-furlong sprint in a race where future Grade 3 winner and Kentucky Derby contender Father Add placed third. He later finished second to the impressive Napoleon Solo in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park in October, followed by a mile race there prior to the Remsen. During the Remsen, where he encountered traffic for the first time, Talkin was positioned fourth early but ultimately faded.

Gargan feels Talkin wasn’t in peak condition for the Remsen, explaining that while training at the Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida, the horse showed signs of being flat due to light prep work. “He’s doing very well now,” Gargan said. “I babied him with some slow works in hopes to bring him back strong, and I think the issue was I brought a flat horse to the race—not his usual self.”

Talkin was purchased for $600,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He is a son of Good Magic out of Rothe, a winning mare by Tiznow who also produced Grade 2 placed Royal Obsession (dam of the 2025 Grade 1 Cotillion winner Clicquot) and stakes runner-up Jumby Bay.

Another promising Good Magic offspring in the Gargan stable is the four-year-old filly Snow Whit. She recently scored a commanding 11 1/4-length allowance win over 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream Park on February 1, achieving a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 93.

This Kentucky-bred, owned by Don Alberto Stables, placed second to Scottish Lassie in the 2024 Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont. She has finished either first or second in three of her four starts around two-turn races.

Gargan indicated that Snow Whit could make a start in the nine-furlong, $175,000 Top Flight Stakes at Belmont on March 29 before setting her sights on the Grade 2 Double Dog Dare Stakes at Keeneland on April 17.

“She had an impressive win recently and has clearly improved with age,” Gargan said. “She posted her best closing fractions ever and hasn’t finished worse than second in any two-turn race besides the Breeders’ Cup. The path to the Double Dog Dare seems like a logical next step.”

Snow Whit is a half-sister to Snow Dancer, dam of Dancing Groom, who finished third in the 2023 Grade 1 Champagne Stakes; both are out of War Front mare Snowfall, a dual stakes winner.

This piece was first published by Paulick Report on February 11, 2026, and appeared initially in the News section.

Fan Take: This update highlights the potential resurgence of Talkin and the rise of Snow Whit, two promising horses who could impact the upcoming racing season. For fans, their returns could inject fresh excitement and strengthen competition in key Derby prep races and stakes events, signaling a compelling season ahead for Thoroughbred racing.
