February 11: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scores the winning goal late on on his Celtic debut

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the winning goal late on on his Celtic debut to secure a 2-1 home win against Livingston in the William Hill Premiership.

The visitors looked set to grab an unexpected point after Robbie Muirhead’s penalty canceled out Marcelo Saracchi’s first-half opener.

However, with two minutes of added time on the clock, Oxlade-Chamberlain fired into the far corner to give his team the win and take the game within six points of leaders Hearts.

Celtic started on the front foot and should have done better as Callum McGregor pushed a low shot past Jerome Prior than Tomas Vankara fired a shot into the goalkeeper’s arms.

After May’s shot, Livingston responded early with a shot of their own, which Schmeichel did well to thwart.

However, most of the chances were on the other side. Livi goalkeeper Praia did well to deny Tunecki’s shot and then made a save from Nygren just a minute later, but then Maeda was unable to get the rebound past Kerr.

McGregor had another drive saved by Prior, but Celtic finally broke through 15 minutes later from the resulting corner kick.

Engels’ corner kick was headed on the edge of the box, and Saracchi controlled the ball with one touch and smashed his shot over the keeper’s head to score his first goal for Celtic.

The home side kept up the pressure and Nygren’s excellent turn was once again saved well by Prior before Engels was sent off injured and replaced by the standard bearer.

Celtic had their first chance of the second half when Liam Scales headed home Livingstone to equalize. Hatate brought down Muirhead in the box and the striker made no mistake in converting the penalty he was awarded.

Celtic were closing in on the winning goal and deep into stoppage time, Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbed the top point with a shot from the edge of the box into the far corner.
