Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi has sustained a hamstring strain in his left leg, putting his availability for the MLS Cup champions’ season opener against LAFC on February 21st at risk. The team confirmed the injury on Wednesday.

Messi, who was named MLS MVP for the second year in a row, scored in a preseason match in Ecuador last weekend but was substituted approximately 12 minutes into the second half, likely due to this hamstring concern. Inter Miami stated that his return to training will be dictated by his clinical progress over the upcoming days.

As a result of this injury, Inter Miami’s last preseason match will occur roughly a week after the MLS’s opening game. They are set to play against the Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle on February 26th in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and there will also be a public training session during that trip.

This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights the potential impact of player injuries on team performance in crucial matches. Messi’s presence elevates the excitement and quality of the league, and his absence could alter the dynamics for Inter Miami and its opponents alike.
