Iowa retires from Caitlyn Clark’s 22nd jersey

From logos to rafters.

After sweeping the basketball world during her time in Iowa, Caitlyn Clark recently retired Jersey, number 22 at her alma mater on Sunday.

Clark, held for the sold-out Carver Hawkie Arena in Iowa City, received praise from fans, former teammates and coaches at the ceremony last Sunday.

“People always ask Lisa and me, ‘Did you think she’s that good?’ I thought she was all American, but she took me to the Final Four, and did you think she would probably be the most famous athlete at that point?

During the 2023-24 season, Clark was Iowa’s all-time best scorer and top scorer in the NCAA, leading Iowa to the NCAA Championship appearance.

Former head coach Lisa Bruder added: “Through everything, you remained true to yourself. It showed you why it’s wise to invest in women’s sports and why it’s wise to invest in women.”

Clark was the first pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, selected by Indiana Fever.

“I would like to thank all of you who have allowed me to forgive who I am over the course of my career,” continued Clark. “I am, to all of you who have poured into me through the course of my career.”
