  • Tyrell Malasia is struggling at Man United
  • Can Leeds United revive Malasia’s career?

Leeds United are reportedly considering a bold summer move for Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malasia, with Sport Boom suggesting the Yorkshire club are monitoring his situation ahead of a potential free transfer.

It remains unclear which division Leeds will compete in next season, but plans are already well underway behind the scenes as Daniel Farke looks to strengthen key areas of his squad.

The left-back position is also thought to be an area under consideration.

Malasia, who has Premier League experience and is only 26, could represent a calculated gamble on the upside.

Leeds United have Gabriel Gudamundsson and Sam Briam in the left-back position, but Los Blancos are looking to add more depth in that department.

Tyrell Malasia is struggling at Man United

Malasia joined Manchester United from Feyenoord in 2022 for around £15 million.

He initially competed with Luke Shaw for the starting spot at Old Trafford, impressing with his aggression, defensive tenacity and willingness to press high up the pitch.

However, a serious knee injury dramatically hampered his progress and sidelined him for nearly 18 months. He then suffered a number of setbacks that limited his staying power and raised concerns about his long-term durability.

There were hopes that Malasia would leave United last summer, but no deal materialised.

He has gradually worked his way back into the first-team set-up, but with his contract coming to an end, it looks increasingly likely that he will leave.

Falke’s tactical system demands intensity and energy from wide defenders, especially in the transition phase.

Malasia’s natural attributes, pace, pressing ability and attacking support from deep positions would fit that profile.

But the key question is whether Leeds can rely on a player who has experienced serious fitness problems in the past.

If Malasia can rediscover his fitness and rhythm, he could prove to be a shrewd signing, but it remains a calculated risk for Leeds United.
