  • Alexis Mac Allister likely to leave Anfield after Man United attack
  • A move to Manchester United unlikely due to Liverpool rivalry
    • Player who played for both Liverpool and Manchester United

Manchester United are planning a surprise attack on Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister, according to a new report from the Mirror.

In one of the most controversial transfers in Premier League history, Old Trafford bosses have reportedly included the World Cup winner on their summer shortlist as they look to shake up their midfield without veteran Casemiro.

Speculation has intensified over Mac Allister’s future after a shaky season under manager Arne Slott.

Despite being a key figure in Liverpool’s title-winning 2024-25 campaign, rumors suggest the Argentine superstar could be open to a new challenge.

United’s interest has shocked the North West, but they are not the only ones attracting attention.

Real Madrid have been widely linked with the 27-year-old in recent months, with reports in Spain suggesting Los Blancos consider him a potential long-term successor in midfield.

Mac Allister himself has previously hinted at a desire to play in La Liga before his career is over, which could give the Spanish champions a huge advantage over Premier League hopefuls.

A move to Manchester United unlikely due to Liverpool rivalry

Despite reported interest from Manchester United, a direct transfer remains highly unlikely.

The rivalry is so intense that the two clubs rarely do direct business with each other.

Historically, Liverpool and Man United have preferred to sell overseas rather than strengthen their arch-rivals.

There has not been a direct transfer between the two clubs since Phil Chisnall left United for Liverpool in 1964.

There were players who played for both clubs, such as Michael Owen and Paul Ince, but both ended up playing for a third club before finally crossing the opposing team.

Although direct transfers have disappeared, several notable players have represented both badges throughout their careers.
