Manchester United have reportedly held internal discussions over a potential transfer for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

Speaking to United Stand, Ben Jacobs said the Red Devils had discussed the possibility of signing Gordon, who could be signed this summer.

Jacobs said if Newcastle failed to qualify for the Champions League, they could be in a situation where they would need to make one “significant” sale.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Gordon is the one to go, but see below for what Jacobs had to say about that…

Jacobs said: “Anthony Gordon has been discussed internally and if Newcastle miss out on Champions League qualification, a major sale could be considered in the summer to raise funds.”

United would not be the only club chasing Gordon if this summer transfer opportunity actually materializes.

As we recently reported here, the England international is understood to be attracting attention from top clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal.

According to our information, Gordon’s asking price is likely to reach £95 million, so it won’t be easy for any of these clubs to get a deal done.

Newcastle showed they were no pushover last summer when they ultimately sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a British record fee.

Anthony Gordon could be a great signing for Manchester United

MUFC have made some progress this season, but could still do so with more depth in attack and a more natural wide player than Matheus Cunha.

Brian Mbeumo has performed very well since joining from Brentford and Gordon could do the same from the opposite flank.

Still, Mohamed Salah is not young and could face an uncertain future if he doesn’t improve between now and the end of the season, so Liverpool might want to splurge on Gordon.
