  • Coventry maintain pole position, further raising West Brom’s relegation fears
        • West Brom jump in race to sign ‘super’ 11-goal forward with huge £8m increase for Eric Ramsey

West Brom manager Eric Ramsey is clinging to form after Saturday’s comfortable win over Frank Lampard’s Coventry City.

Coventry maintain pole position, further raising West Brom’s relegation fears

Sky Bet Championship leaders Coventry recorded their first away win since November 25 as a 2-0 win took West Brom deeper into relegation troubles with the Hawthorns.

Efron Mason-Clarke’s lob in the 5th minute and Jack Redoni’s powerful strike in the 32nd minute gave Frank Lampard’s side a back-to-back victory, their first win on the road in nine games.

West Brom supporters shouted at head coach Ramsey: “You’re fired this morning” and “Your football is crap”.

Albion are without a win in nine league games, eight of which have come under Ramsey, and have not scored in 360 minutes in the league.

Coventry took the lead with their first attack of the game, breaking through Albion’s high defensive line.

Frank Onyeka won the ball in midfield and Milan van Eijwik sent a long ball over the top, where Mason-Clarke chested the ball and fired a shot past goalkeeper Max O’Leary.

Mason-Clarke hit Alfie Gilchrist on the wrong side, but Gilchrist tried to clear the ball from his line but it went into the back of the goal. The former Peterborough forward’s seventh goal of the season was his first since Boxing Day.

Mason Clarke had a chance to make it 2-0, but his rising drive from 25 yards sailed easily over the bar.

Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth’s first action came in the 30th minute, when he latched onto Isaac Price’s misplaced cross.

The Sky Blues made it 2-0 with an unforgettable shot from Rudoni. After being allowed a run from inside his own half, the midfielder smashed a ferocious drive into the top corner of the net from 25 yards out.

Right-back Gilchrist, who had caught Rudoni in the penalty area moments before, was replaced by George Campbell in the 40th minute and suffered the humiliation of being sent off before half-time.

Albion’s first attempt on goal came on the last kick of the first half. Jed Wallace’s disastrous shot went wide.

The hosts looked to take the game back to Coventry after the restart, but Alex Mowat’s low drive went wide.

However, there was little improvement and Ramsey made three substitutions in the 61st minute. He replaced Darryl Dike, Mikey Johnston and Josh Maja in place of Ohne Hegebo, Jamaldeen Jimoh Arroba and Wallace.

Albion’s first shot on target came in the 79th minute when Dyche crossed from the left and Price’s angled shot was blocked by the near post.

West Brom were able to move out of the bottom three thanks to Stoke City’s late equalizer against Leicester, but Lewis Cox of The Express and Star shared an update just after full-time, saying there was “huge pressure” on Ramsey ahead of vital six-point strikes against Charlton and Oxford.

“There’s a lot of pressure on Eric Ramsey right now. He’s in the bottom three in the WBA and hasn’t won in eight fights. His rivals are winning elsewhere under the new regime. The horror show continues.”

Football FanCast’s sources understand that the Baggies do not want to make any changes ahead of these two games, but are now considering options that could have other dire consequences.

West Brom have already started making plans for the summer transfer window, but relegation would force them to change their plans.
