  • Matheus Cunha’s incredible performance against Everton
  • Michael Carrick is yet to lose a game as Manchester United manager

Backpage has been dominated by Benjamin Sesco’s recent heroics off the bench, but it was also thanks to Matheus Cunha’s tireless, all-out effort that Manchester United won 1-0 against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Slovenian striker may have secured the three points with a “relentless finish” in the 71st minute, but it was Cunha’s tactical discipline and singular momentary vision that laid the foundations for Michael Carrick’s latest victory.

Matheus Cunha’s incredible performance against Everton

Starting on the left, Cunha produced what many called his most complete performance in a United shirt.

His talent is often praised, but what stood out Monday night was his grit.

According to Statman Dave, Cunha made an incredible contribution with 11 saves in 94 minutes, including a goal-saving block on James Garner seconds before United’s winning counter-attack.

Luke Shaw was able to move forward thanks to his defensive work rate, while Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and James Garner remained mostly silent.

However, his most decisive contribution was offensive. Cunha intercepted a loose ball deep in his own half and released Brian Mbeumo with a brilliant cross-field pass.

Mbeumo’s subsequent square ball found Sesco, who scored his third goal in four games.

Michael Carrick is yet to lose a game as Manchester United manager

The victory extended Michael Carrick’s impressive start as Manchester United caretaker manager.

Since replacing Ruben Amorim on January 13, Carrick has overseen six unbeaten Premier League games (five wins, one loss) and is yet to taste defeat.

Under Carrick’s guidance, United regained their place in the top four with a three-point lead over Chelsea and Liverpool.

The former midfielder has instilled a new resilience in the team, evidenced by the team’s ability to continue producing results late in games.
