  • Gers set their sights on centre-forward in title race
  • ‘Dangerous’ Piroue needs to leave Leeds this summer
        • Rangers top 15 all-time scorers

Rangers currently hold a significant advantage over old farm rivals Celtic in the race for the ‘dangerous’ striker and are likely to pursue him this summer.

Gers set their sights on centre-forward in title race

The Scottish Premiership title race took a new turn at the weekend as Hearts extended their lead at the top of the table to four points with a narrow 1-0 home win over Falkirk.

Meanwhile, Gers fell down the table against bottom-of-the-table Livingston but managed to fight back to draw 2-2 and at least pick up another point, while Celtic lost 2-1 to Hibernian at Parkhead.

Mikey Moore was disappointed not to be given a penalty in the second half after being brought down by Cammy Kerr, and Chris Sutton admitted the referee should have called for a penalty. “I think it was inside the box. He slid outside the box, but I think the contact went inside the box. I could be wrong, but I think that was shocking.”

The 18-year-old has been in the spotlight in recent weeks, scoring two goals and providing one assist in his last four games in the Scottish Premiership, but Danny Roll still lacks a reliable scorer, with right-back James Tavenier equaling the Light Blues’ top scorer with seven goals.

However, a report from Football Insider has revealed that Rangers are likely to rekindle their interest in Leeds United striker Joel Pillow later in the season, with Rolle potentially looking to make it happen in the summer transfer window.

The Ibrox side were interested in signing Pillow during the January transfer window, and the same goes for Celtic, who even negotiated a deal for the Dutchman.

The 26-year-old could be forced to leave this summer after falling down the pecking order at Elland Road, and Gers are owned by the same 49ers group as Leeds, giving them a key advantage over their Glasgow rivals.

‘Dangerous’ Piroue needs to leave Leeds this summer

Hailed as a “dangerous” player by journalist Josh Bunting, the former Swansea City man has established himself as a star in the Championship in the four seasons leading up to this season, playing a big part in Leeds’ promotion last year.

However, since making the step up to the Premier League, the Wichen-born marksman has struggled to make the same impact, playing just 208 minutes in 11 top-flight games this season, failing to score a single goal.

It is therefore clear that Pillow will need to move on at the end of the season, and what the £40,000-a-week striker has achieved so far in the Championship suggests he may have what it takes to become a star in the Scottish Premiership.
