Joe Shields wants to sign Morgan Rogers
Chelsea manager Joe Shields, who previously took Rodgers to Manchester City, is now keen to sign him with the London club. Although his move to the Manchester-based giants didn’t work out, his consistent performances at Aston Villa have firmly established him as one of the most exciting young players in England’s top flight.
Rodgers has been described by manager Unai Emery as “really good”.
The Blues have brought in some of the most talented young players from around the world in recent years. They already have plenty of firepower, but Liam Rosenior, who took over midway through the season, appears to have big plans for the summer.
Rosenior is pushing for a deal with Rodgers.
The 41-year-old wants to form an attack consisting of: Estebao on the right, Cole Palmer in the number 10 role, Joao Pedro up top and Morgan Rogers on the left. He believes the 23-year-old’s arrival could help them take the next step and win the Premier League.
Rodgers is an integral part of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa set-up and they are unlikely to let him go unless a record-breaking offer is made. A transfer could cost more than €100m, so the Blues are looking to raise funds by signing the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap.
The Birmingham-based side have full control over his future as he has a long-term contract. However, the player’s motivation could play a big role and Chelsea are optimistic about poaching him.
