Manchester United’s 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday was overshadowed by a serious injury concern for Harry Maguire.

The experienced centre-back was forced off late in the game, increasing the defensive crisis for head coach Michael Carrick.

Maguire, the mainstay of Carrick’s revitalized backline, appeared to be in pain late in the second half.

After receiving brief treatment on the pitch, he was replaced in the 85th minute by teenager Aiden Haven.

Maguire did not sit on the bench and went straight to the dressing room, raising concerns that he would be left out for a long period of time.

Dion Dublin talks about Harry Maguire

Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin described the worrying nature of his departure in a report on BBC Radio 5 Live from Old Trafford:

“Harry Maguire walked straight down the tunnel with the physios. It didn’t seem like a tactical move. He looked a little uncomfortable as he passed.”

The injury was a bitter pill to swallow for United, who also lost Luke Shaw to injury early in the first half of the same game.

With Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt already sidelined, Carrick faces a selection headache ahead of a crucial trip to Newcastle United.

Man United’s resurgence continues under Michael Carrick

Despite injury setbacks, the Carrick effect is still in full swing.

United fell behind early on due to Maxence Lacroix’s header, but after Lacroix was sent off in the second half they showed great strength and turned the game around.

Bruno Fernandes scored the equalizer from the penalty spot, and Benjamin Sesco topped it off in the 65th minute for the winning goal.

The victory extended United’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 10 games and moved them up to third place in the table.

Since replacing Ruben Amorim in mid-January, Carrick has transformed the team into one of the most clinical in the league.
