Archie Gray is wanted by Bundesliga giants
Both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund reportedly see Gray as a player with “huge potential”.
Dortmund, in particular, are long-time fans and had been scouting the player, who was attracting attention even before he moved from Leeds United to North London in the summer of last year.
Following the success of players like Jude Bellingham and Jamie Gittens, the Bundesliga has become even more attractive to young English talent.
Bayern are renowned for developing elite candidates into world-class stars, but Dortmund’s reputation for offering immediate first-team opportunities in the Champions League remains a big draw.
According to reports, both clubs believe Gray could develop into a “top player” under their tutelage and potentially mirror the career trajectory of other English players who have flourished in Germany.
Beyond Germany’s interest, several Premier League teams are also standing by and ready to offer the 19-year-old a way to remain in England. Real Madrid are also said to be interested.
Gray’s transfer fee is reported to be around €60 million and Tottenham want to keep him at the club, but are reportedly willing to negotiate a departure for the former Leeds ace if the asking price is met.
Tottenham could lose several star players this summer
The sudden interest from overseas is mainly due to Tottenham’s precarious position in the Premier League table.
Spurs are currently on a miserable run of ten games without a win and find themselves just four points above the relegation zone.
If the unthinkable were to happen and the club dropped to the Championship, retaining a talent like Gray would be an almost impossible task.
And it’s not just Gray, several other star players will no doubt seek a transfer. Cristian Romero has already been linked with a summer departure, while Micky van de Ven’s future at the club is also uncertain.
Things look bleak for the north London club after Igor Tudor failed to make an immediate impact.
