Crystal Palace are currently eyeing managerial options to replace Thomas Frank, who is ‘destined for the top’.
Glassner says he expects more from Johnson
While everyone in south London is focused on who will replace Oliver Glasner this summer, the Austrian himself remains focused on the remainder of the season.
The past few months have been difficult for the coach as well. He lost Marc Gehi and watched his team decline in form both in Europe and the Premier League. Glasner and his reinforcements have been criticized after spending big in the January transfer window, winning just two of their last 10 Premier League games.
Brennan Johnson receives most of the criticism in this regard. Since joining for a hefty £47.5 million, the Welshman is yet to score a goal in 12 competitive games.
But Glasner insisted there was more to the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, telling reporters: “There are a lot of positives[in Johnson’s contributions]. But of course I think he probably couldn’t find that consistency in his performance.”
“There are always highlights, always creating different situations, but of course he wants to score like any other attacking player.
“But we have seen the effort he has put in in training. He is a very good player and has all the necessary skills. He has it all. Now we will support him, show it consistently every game and get his confidence back. Then he will be a great player for Crystal Palace for the rest of the season.”
Crystal Palace’s new Wilfried Zaha could end Mateta’s career at Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace need to find new inspiration as Oliver Glasner’s title-winning tenure threatens to disappear.
The Palace manager fully believes Johnson’s goal will materialise, but the pressure will certainly be on under a new manager in the summer, especially if it’s Frank.
The recently sacked Tottenham manager was the one who decided to sell the winger and could be in for an unwanted reunion unless the Eagles turn in a different direction.
Crystal Palace target Kieran McKenna
As reported by Caught Offside, Crystal Palace are currently targeting Kieran McKenna.
The Ipswich Town manager attracted a lot of interest after winning back-to-back promotions from 2022 to 2024 before suffering relegation to the Premier League. Now, he is on the radar of Palace as the Tractor Boys battle for a spot in the top flight once again.
If the Eagles are looking for a player similar to Frank, McKenna is a solid option. Like the Dane, he is also a young manager with Premier League experience. And that experience will be invaluable when replacing someone as important as Glassner.
The Ipswich manager, who operates a 4-2-3-1 system, has earned plenty of praise at Portman Road.
Peterborough chairman Darragh McCathony told talkSPORT in 2024: “Ipswich have their style and it was a fascinating game to watch and that’s what you want to see. I think he (McKenna) is destined to be at the top.”
McKenna looks set to return to the Premier League, whether he moves to Ipswich following promotion or replaces Glasner at Crystal Palace.
