Super-sub William Osula scored a sensational solo goal in the 90th minute to give Newcastle United a 2-1 win over Manchester United, ending Michael Carrick’s impressive unbeaten start as caretaker manager.

The dramatic victory at St James’s Park ended Eddie Howe’s team’s losing streak at three points and dealt a huge blow to hopes of solidifying third place.

William Osla’s wonder goal surprises Manchester United

The game was deadlocked at 1-1 and looked headed for a draw when Osla, who was on the pitch for just six minutes, produced a moment of pure magic.

The Denmark Under-21 international received a long pass from Kieran Trippier near the right touchline and began a lung-busting run, weaving past several defenders and cutting inside before curling a stunning shot into the far corner past Senne Ramens.

Despite playing for more than 45 minutes at a numerical disadvantage, the hosts kept their cool and Aaron Ramsdale made two world-class saves to deny Man United.

The game was a frenetic 10 minutes at the end of the first half. Newcastle were reduced to 10 men after Jacob Ramsey was controversially shown a second yellow card for simulation in the 41st minute.

However, minutes later Anthony Gordon put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after being fouled by Bruno Fernandes.

The lead was short-lived as Manchester United struck back in the 9th minute of stoppage time.

Fernandes turned provider, hitting Casemiro with a pinpoint free-kick and a header to put his team level just before half-time.

Carrick’s undefeated streak ends

The defeat was manager Michael Carrick’s first since taking over in January, ending his two-year unbeaten run as caretaker manager.

United arrived on Tyneside full of confidence having won 19 of their 21 points under Carrick, but lacked the clinical acumen needed to break through a solid 10-man defence.

United remain in a good position to qualify for the Champions League, but were unable to capitalize on Liverpool’s loss to Wolves and Aston Villa’s loss to Chelsea.
