Real Madrid are reportedly determined to strengthen their squad with top young signings this summer, with Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly among their priorities.

The 20-year-old has shone for Man City since establishing himself as a first-team regular this season, showing he can play in a variety of positions.

According to Ficajes, this has led Real Madrid to seriously consider O’Reilly ahead of this summer, with the Spanish giants’ recruitment team rating him very highly.

But at the same time, it’s hard to imagine City being ready to let go of the England international anytime soon.

O’Reilly’s contract at the Etihad Stadium runs until 2030, so MCFC should be in a pretty strong position with this deal.

Nico O’Reilly transfer is not something Manchester City should consider

O’Reilly’s impressive development this season certainly shows he is too important to let go for a club whose academy often produces top talent.

Phil Foden is the best example of this, but we’ve also seen players such as Cole Palmer, Liam Delap and Romeo Rabia leave the club to play for other teams, while Rico Luiz flourishes in the first team.

O’Reilly seems more than capable of emulating the likes of Foden and Palmer and becoming a top performer at the highest level.

Whether he does it at City or elsewhere remains to be seen, but it’s hard to imagine Madrid being able to make this ambitious deal at this point.

Could PSR lure Man City into selling Nico O’Reilly?

However, one of the key elements of the modern game is the regulation of PSR, which entices clubs to sign players from their home country.

A player like O’Reilly could bring in a lot of money for City and could also be counted as a pure gain coming through the academy.

However, City are better off not falling into this trap as they need to put the team first, and O’Reilly has shown he is more than capable of contributing both in defense and midfield.
