According to L’Equipe, the worst-case scenario is that Jaquet could miss six months as Liverpool begin preparations for the new season.

The Athletic reported in January that Liverpool were looking to sign the Frenchman, who will remain at Rennes for the rest of the season.

But it now appears doubtful whether Jaquet will feature for the Ligue 1 club again before the end of the season.

What kind of injury does Jeremy Jacquet have?

As L’Equipe previously reported, Jaquet has a shoulder injury that will require surgery.

This currently means the 20-year-old could be out for four to six months, making it highly unlikely that he will be able to make it in time for pre-season with Liverpool.

LFC fans may have to wait until September to see Jacquet make his debut for the club, which is far from ideal as they really needed this signing for a top young centre-back.

Jeremy Jaquet will have a big role for Liverpool

Jacquet is relatively inexperienced at the top level, but has shown great potential so far during his time at Rennes.

Following this, Liverpool made a move to acquire him in January, with reports such as “Give Me Sport” showing strong ties with Chelsea.

It is clear that Liverpool have acquired a special talent for the future, but he will also have a role to fill immediately after a difficult season defensively for Arne Slott’s side.

Virgil van Dijk is perhaps starting to show his age, with the Reds conceding a worryingly high 39 goals in 29 games in the Premier League so far.

In addition, with Ibrahima Konate nearing the end of his contract, Jaquet may soon have to replace his fellow Frenchman in the slot eleven.
