Aston Villa defender Luca Digne has explained why he chose to live in London rather than Birmingham, despite playing for the West Midlands club.
The left-back explains that there are no French schools in Birmingham and he wants his children to be educated in both French and English. Living in London has allowed me to provide my children with a multicultural education.
Digne told Sofoot (h/t SportWitness): “It’s a family decision. When I signed for Villa[in 2022]my son started school and there are no French schools in Birmingham.
“For us, it was very important that our children read and write in both French and English. In London, our children have the opportunity to do both. My wife’s family is Algerian, so they have two or even three cultures. They are young, but you can already tell that they are open-minded.”
The French full-back has to commute long distances to play for the West Midlands club and has not been able to relocate for family reasons. The defender also explained that he regularly leaves home early in the morning to attend club training.
Digne has been an important player for Aston Villa since joining the club and is undoubtedly one of the best full-backs in the country at the moment. He will be hoping to help them finish the season on a strong note and qualify for the Champions League next season. They have performed well in the Premier League so far and are hoping to finish at the top of the table.
The player has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa in recent months, but they need to retain players of his quality if they want to consistently compete at the highest level.
