Franco Morbidelli denies breaking the rules “frequently” after a slow riding penalty

Franco Morbidelli denied breaking the rules frequently with slow riding on the line despite his second penalty in the MotoGP season.

The VR46 Ducati rider will need to offer a third-place grid penalty at Silverstone, the Grand Prix on Sunday.

Morbidelli was punished for slowly riding the race line on turns 12 and 13 during his second practice session on Friday.

His actions were irritated by Marco Betzecki’s gestures.

This is Morbidelli’s second penalty for similar nature this season. This was a familiar crime by Morbidelli, as he had previously been punished with Buriram.

Morbidelli was in 15th on Friday, while Betzecchi was in 5th.

Morbidelli said: “We need to change our habits to avoid penalties,” he said:

“Talking often opens up big issues.

“When I do this, I get recorded frequently because I can swear to you that this has happened many times with other riders, but it just goes through.

“This time, I understand more about the Thai episode, which was a Thai attack.

“This was midway through the session.

“It’s true that the penalty involves this behavior.

“I take the penalty without any issues, but this certainly opens up topics for other occasions.

“It happens to everyone in the middle of the session, to be slowed down on the line. But things weren’t recorded. They didn’t complain.

“I’ll accept that. I understand.”

He added about Friday:

“When I went to the time attack, I had no intention of pushing, which is a shame.

“We had an episode with Marco. After an episode in Thailand, and after an episode with Pecco Bagnaia, there’s a (3rd place grid penalty).
