Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle a 1-0 lead early in the game, but Jeremy Doku’s play on the left set up Sabinho’s goal to make it 1-1.
But the Brazilian winger didn’t know much about it. I just stood there waiting in the penalty area as the ball bounced off me and over the line.
Watch below how Sabinho somehow managed to score a goal while staying perfectly still as if he had never expected Doc’s cross to reach him…
Sabinho’s goal increases the difference between Newcastle and Manchester City
City made a big rotation of their squad tonight, and manager Josep Guardiola admitted before the game that all of these changes were necessary given the number of games.
Still, this second-best side has done a decent job so far and Guardiola can still name a number of quality players even if he rests the likes of Erling Haaland, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Rodri, Ruben Dias, Antoine Semenho and Marc Guehi.
Sabinho is a very capable substitute and this was just the moment he needed, having struggled to make much of an impression since moving to the Etihad Stadium.
But one thing City really want now is to avoid the score remaining as it is and force the game into extra time.
Arsenal also made a lot of rotations in today’s game, but they were able to get the job done in 90 minutes. This could be important as the pair face busy schedules as they compete for the Premier League title and prepare to face off in the Carabao Cup final later this month.
