  • Roberto De Zerbi keen on Manchester United job
    • Tottenham are also aiming to appoint De Zerbi permanently.
  • Michael Carrick suffered his first defeat as Man United manager against Newcastle

Michael Carrick has done an impressive job since taking over as interim manager following the sacking of manager Ruben Amorim. However, he has not yet been able to convince the club to appoint him permanent manager.

Despite the team being revitalized by the ‘Carrick effect’, Manchester United have reportedly named Roberto De Zerbi as their top candidate to become a regular player this summer.

The former Marseille manager is understood to be “keen” about a job at Old Trafford as he looks to return to the Premier League.

Roberto De Zerbi keen on Manchester United job

According to a report in the Telegraph, De Zerbi is on Manchester United’s list of candidates to become their next long-term manager.

The Italian, who left Marseille by mutual consent in February, has made no secret of his desire to manage a leading English club.

De Zerbi’s stock remains high among United bosses, who praise his front-foot attacking style of football and insistence on dominant possession.

The Italian has been praised by Arne Slott as “one of the best managers in the world”.

Tottenham are also aiming to appoint De Zerbi permanently.

United are not the only club monitoring the situation in Italy. Tottenham are also considering De Zerbi as a long-term option, but any move would depend on his status in the top flight.

Spurs are currently just one point above the drop zone and fighting for survival.

The paper suggests that although De Zerbi is the main target, Tottenham will only consider a move if they secure his place in the Premier League.

With manager Igor Tudor under immense pressure after losing his first three games, the north London club could face a battle to beat United in signing De Zerbi.

Michael Carrick suffered his first defeat as Man United manager against Newcastle

Speculation about management has intensified following an investigation into interim manager Michael Carrick.

Carrick, who went on a sensational seven-match unbeaten run, suffered his first defeat as Manchester United manager on Wednesday in a 2-1 10-a-side defeat at Newcastle.

Despite Newcastle being reduced to 10 men following Jacob Ramsey’s red card, United were unable to capitalize.

William Osula’s stunning goal in the dying minutes ended Carrick’s unbeaten run and left the United legend “deeply disappointed”.

United remain third in the table, but the defeat has reignited debate over whether Carrick is good enough to lead the club permanently or whether a high-profile appointment is needed.
