  • Mac Allister admits Liverpool have not yet started contract talks with him
  • Mac Allister is Real Madrid’s top target

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed that he is not currently in contract talks with the club, despite growing speculation about his long-term future at Anfield.

The Argentina World Cup winner, who has been a key figure in Liverpool’s midfield since joining from Brighton in 2023, confirmed there are currently no talks to extend his stay on Merseyside.

Mac Allister admits Liverpool have not yet started contract talks with him

Speaking about the situation ahead of the game against Galatasaray, Mac Allister remained calm about the lack of movement.

He said (via Fabrizio Romano): “We are not in contract negotiations with Liverpool. There are no negotiations regarding a new contract, but we are not in a hurry.”

The 27-year-old’s current contract runs until the summer of 2028, giving the club some breathing room.

However, this renewal comes at a time when Liverpool are actively looking to secure other key assets, including Ryan Gravenbirch, who recently signed a long-term contract extension until 2032.

Mac Allister’s father and agent Carlos echoed his son’s sentiments in a recent interview, saying the player is “happy” at Liverpool but is just waiting for the club to make the first move.

The lack of formal talks is reportedly a cautious approach from Liverpool bosses who are currently balancing several high-profile contract situations, including that of Ibrahima Konate.

Mac Allister is Real Madrid’s top target

Delays in contract negotiations inevitably put Real Madrid on guard.

The Spanish giants are reportedly monitoring Mac Allister’s situation closely as they look to revamp their midfield following the veteran star’s departure.

The Whites are yet to replace the technical abilities of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric and have identified Mac Allister as their top target, according to reports.

With Real Madrid already storming Anfield with the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold in 2025, there are fears among Liverpool fans that the Argentine could be the next star to swap the Premier League with the Bernabéu.
