The decision follows a disastrous 11-game winless spell that sees Spurs hover just one point above the Premier League’s relegation zone.
The sale of these big-ticket assets is seen as a financial necessity as the club needs to make ends meet and fund a major rebuild under a new permanent head coach.
Tottenham to release Vicario and Pedro Porro
Despite both players being regular starters, Spurs feel moving them is the best way to reset the squad as both players have been “targets of supporters” this season.
The sale is expected to generate significant cash, with Vicario worth around £25m and Polo expected to receive a fee of more than £50m.
Both have been key players in the past, but the organization is now prioritizing players who are fully committed to long-term projects, especially if the club is struggling with the unthinkable prospect of relegation to the Championship.
Vicario also keen to leave Tottenham
Vicario is also said to be open to a move, with reports suggesting the Italian is keen to return to his home country.
Several Serie A clubs have expressed interest in signing him, including Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma, and they are all monitoring his situation closely.
In fact, according to reports, the player’s camp is already in talks with Juventus.
Pedro Polo falls out with Tottenham fans
Pedro Polo’s future is also under scrutiny after his relationship with the Spurs faithful fell apart.
The Spanish full-back was the target of heavy criticism and boos from fans during recent home matches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Most notably, Polo were involved in a violent clash with away fans after a disastrous 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth.
Barcelona have recently been linked with the player, with Manchester City also showing interest in the Spurs right-back.
If the Spurs decide to sell him, there will be no shortage of suitors.
