  • Loan players shine from Spurs’ relegation woes
  • Spurs new players aim to sign Vuskovic
        • Pochettino upgrade: Spurs target ‘one of the best players in the world’ as key target

Tottenham Hotspur’s immediate future certainly looks incredibly bleak, with the club currently perilously close to the Premier League’s relegation zone.

The Lilywhites are currently two places above the drop zone and one point behind, after manager Igor Tudor suffered three consecutive defeats following the sacking of Thomas Frank.

With nine games remaining in the 2025/26 season, there are growing concerns that the club will be able to qualify for the Championship next season.

The club’s 29 goals in 29 games this term is a testament to the struggles they have endured, without a manager to coax a voice out of the players currently on the north London roster.

But despite recent struggles, fans certainly have reason to be positive, although it could be several years before their excitement pays off in the first-team ranks.

Loan players shine from Spurs’ relegation woes

Spurs have brought in a number of talented young players in recent years, many of whom could play big roles in the senior ranks going forward.

South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk was one of the players who moved to North London, before joining from Gangwon FC in January 2025.

The 19-year-old has already spent three loan spells in the Championship since joining, with spells at Coventry City, Portsmouth and QPR.

He was also in great form during the aforementioned period in the second tier, going on to find the back of the net five times in 34 appearances.

Hyuk is not the only young player on loan from the Lilywhites, with centre-back Luka Vuskovic also enjoying his first taste of football in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The Croatian, who was paid £12 million in 2024, spent the year on loan at Bundesliga side Hamburg, scoring five goals in 22 games despite playing in a defensive role.

In the recent match against Wolfsburg, the 19-year-old won 100% of his ground and aerial duels and also made 17 clearances, 10 of which were with his head.

Spurs new players aim to sign Vuskovic

Vuskovic is a player poised to take a big leap of faith at Spurs and his form away from north London this season has been nothing short of amazing.

If the Lilywhites maintain their top-flight status at the end of the season, the Croatian will undoubtedly be given a regular starting role under the new manager.

However, he has not been able to prevent the club from dropping into the second division at this point, and there is no doubt that all fans will be hoping that he will be the player Tudor calls up.

Given the precarious situation the club finds itself in, it would be a risk to unleash such unproven young talent, but the positives are clear for all to see.

As a result, managers could turn to the likes of Mason Melia, with the Irish teenager a player who could give them fresh impetus for the seniors between now and the end of May.

The youngster, who only joined from St Patrick’s Athletic in January, is yet to make an appearance for the club, but that could change in the near future.

Despite being only 18 years old, Melia has already made a splash in his professional career, as evidenced by his 23 goals in 95 senior matches so far.

His tally of 13 league goals last season was the second most in the division, and he showed clinical dominance to finish inside the final third.

Melia is also a regular for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 team, having already made five appearances in this age group, even finding the back of the net twice.

There is no doubt that there is a huge gap between Ireland’s top division and the Premier League, but the current situation could give the youngster the chance to become an instant fan favorite.

Natural goalscorers are very hard to come by in the modern game, but Melia’s ability in front of goal could be a huge asset for years to come.

If he can carry that form into his homeland of North London, there’s no reason he can’t have a bigger impact on the Lilywhites than fellow youngster Vuskovic.

There is little denying that both players will be key members of the first-team squad for years to come, but both will need to commit in order to provide supporters with the excitement they need.
