  • Who could the Spurs replace Tudor with?
  • Why Spurs need to appoint Sean Dyche
        • Negotiations held: Spurs could upgrade and hire Tudor, ‘equivalent to Pep’

It is difficult to see how Igor Tudor will remain in Tottenham Hotspur’s spotlight until the end of the season.

Less than a month after the Croatian coach was drafted to save the Spurs’ season, fans are already calling for his head. Tottenham are not in the relegation zone in the Premier League, but that could change in the coming days, and Tudor has lost all four games he has been in charge of, which is miserable.

It’s a hopeless situation, but if the Spurs can rack up some wins, their suffering will be less intense. That won’t happen if the Tudor dynasty is in charge. BBC pundit Stephen Warnock said the 47-year-old had already “lost the changing room” after the 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

However, the ENIC group must successfully retrieve the next appointment.

Who could the Spurs replace Tudor with?

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes that Roberto De Zerbi and Mauricio Pochettino are at the top of Tottenham’s managerial shortlist, but it is unlikely (or unlikely) that either of them will be in charge of N17 before the end of the season.

Other names being bandied about include Robbie Keane and Ryan Mason, but appointing a young and inexperienced coach at such a key point in Tottenham’s direction would be a huge risk.

Instead, it may be worth taking the more pragmatic option of appointing a manager who understands the Premier League and accepts the desperate situation Londoners find themselves in.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, experienced Sean Dyche is keen to replace Tottenham’s struggling head coach and keep the club away from relegation, but Spurs are yet to make formal contact with the Englishman or his agent.

If Spurs push through with the appointment, Dyche will be appointed on an interim basis, effectively filling Tudor’s role until the end of the season.

Why Spurs need to appoint Sean Dyche

Dyche is clearly not the most exciting name on the aforementioned list, but the plain truth is that Tottenham don’t need an exciting player right now.

Tottenham need a manager who knows what it means to fight against the odds, a relegation specialist who can steady the ship ahead of a much-needed summer rebuild.

Dyche took Burnley to the Premier League and stayed there for six consecutive seasons, achieving something far beyond the Clarets’ spending ability and outside expectations. His eventful tenure at Everton began with them successfully avoiding relegation, a feat hailed as “incredible” by pundit Stuart Pearce.

In the end, Dyche’s time at Nottingham Forest didn’t go as well as he had hoped, but there has been a lot of instability at the City Ground this season and he started his tenure with four wins out of eight Premier League games.

A defensive player with a wealth of experience (350 Premier League games under his belt), Dyche could even become Tottenham’s version of long-time Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone. Spurs fans will know all too well after Tuesday’s Champions League defeat.

Simeone is a legend, a two-time La Liga winner during the Barcelona-Real Madrid era, and a manager who has overcame the odds against some of the greatest managers of his generation.

Although Diche is not at the same level as the Argentine, both managers share a focus on tactical discipline and a strong mentality among their players.

Players like Keane will look to implement an attractive style of football over the months of the campaign, but perhaps Spurs need something more pragmatic and rooted in defensive solidity and structure.

While Diche and Simeone have employed traditional 4-2-2 formations throughout their managerial careers, a return to basics could still benefit this Spurs team, especially considering Tudor’s unconventional tactics and philosophy have only pushed the club further into the slump.

Tottenham need to start picking up points but are currently just one point above the Premier League relegation zone. Dyche may not be the type to build a dynasty, but he could save this club from dropping into the second division and should be appointed as soon as possible.
