  • Dominik Szoboszlai furious at Liverpool after draw against Tottenham
  • I have to ask about Arne Slot

Dominik Szoboszlai has given a brutally honest assessment of Liverpool’s current situation after a disappointing 1-1 draw with struggling Tottenham at Anfield.

Despite taking an early lead with Szoboszlai’s trademark free-kick, the Reds conceded a dramatic equalizer to Richarlison in the 90th minute, leaving the home crowd in a state of shock and frustration.

The draw left Liverpool’s hopes of progressing into the top four intact, with manager Szoboszlai warning that unless his team’s form improves dramatically, they may not even be able to qualify for Europe’s second-round competition.

The Hungarian midfielder told Sky Sports shortly after the final whistle: he said:

“It’s very disappointing. I don’t know what happened. There’s nothing to say. It’s last minute and I don’t know how many times this season it’s happened again. We have to wake up.”

“We’re feeling flat. We have to wake up because if we keep going like this we should be happy with the conference league. I honestly don’t know why this is happening.”

“I thought we played very well in the first half. We controlled the whole game, but apart from one or two headers, we didn’t create many chances. We couldn’t do the same in the second half.”

“We sit together. These are the most difficult times, but we must stand together.”

“I didn’t hear the boos, but we understand. We haven’t performed as well as we should. They should stand behind us, because last season we won the championship four games before the end. Everyone was happy. Please support us in a difficult time.”

“There’s still time to show how much we want it. We have to come together and fight for the club.”

I have to ask about Arne Slot

The result puts further scrutiny on manager Arne Slott, who has seen his team’s title defense descend into a hopeless battle for Champions League qualification.

Despite reportedly remaining in the pecking order behind him, his failure to finish off a Tottenham team that arrived at Anfield in complete disarray is being seen as a major tactical failure.

Slot’s decision to stay in his defensive shell in the second half backfired spectacularly as Spurs found a breakthrough in the final seconds.

Things are not looking good for Liverpool as they have an important rescue mission against Galatasaray coming up in the Champions League and a match against Manchester City looming.

Fans are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the Dutchman, and while Liverpool’s hierarchy may be backing their manager at the moment, it remains to be seen whether their stance translates into an opportunity at the end of the season.
