  • Jamie Carragher slams Vicario’s mistake
  • Spurs goalkeeper has struggled to perform this season

Jamie Carragher has harshly criticized Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s performance against Liverpool at Anfield.

On Sunday, Liverpool and Spurs drew 1-1 with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Richarlison.

Relegation-battling Spurs put the hosts ahead with a free-kick from Szoboszlai, before Richarlison equalized in the 90th minute.

Coach Carragher criticized Vicario’s poor performance, particularly his response to Szoboszlai’s free-kick in the first half.

Szoboszlai is a world-class free-kick taker, but replays showed Vicario had a tight grip on the ball and could have saved the free-kick.

Jamie Carragher slams Vicario’s mistake

As reported by Football365, Carragher said in commentary:

“There aren’t many direct free-kicks taken in the Premier League these days, but there’s no doubt that Liverpool have free-kick specialists.

“He’s a specialist, but Tottenham don’t have a goalkeeping specialist.

“It’s not that far from the middle of the goal. You have to make a save there. Wow, that’s terrible, it was a real shock from a goalkeeper’s point of view.”

“Liverpool find themselves one goal ahead thanks to their best player by a million miles this season.

“The reason why he (Kinski) played in midweek was because he (Vicario) wasn’t good enough.

“That’s what happened, he ended up playing in the game after that, and what happened is well documented.

“But Tottenham have a big problem with goals.”

Vicario has been attracting attention for his performances throughout the season.

His ability to play out from the back and the quality of his shot saving have been questioned several times this season.

He was dropped by manager Igor Tudor in a big match against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League and replaced by Antonin Kinski, but Kinski made a high-profile mistake and was eventually sacked and replaced by Vicario in the match against the La Liga side.

The goalkeeper position has been Spurs’ Achilles’ heel this season, and it’s something the club are working hard on in the summer.
