Manchester United have joined the race to sign the young midfield star, who is represented by the same agent as Koby Mainu.

Rooney backs Carrick as permanent manager of Manchester United

It was another satisfying weekend for Man United, who are once again starting to look comfortable under Michael Carrick’s caretaker leadership.

The Red Devils have emerged from the chaos and misery of manager Ruben Amorim to the point where they are convinced that victory over top-four rivals Aston Villa is nothing more than routine. In many ways, the former midfielder has done what he has often done throughout his playing career, calming the storms at Old Trafford.

As a result of Man United’s turnaround, the caretaker manager has gained the support of many, including Wayne Rooney.

The former striker last week backed Carrick to get the permanent job, saying: “I know him very well,” Rooney said. “I know his character, I know his character. He needed calm, but knowing the place and the players, he needed love. And he gave them that.”

“I’ve seen the players playing with higher quality and coming together more as a team. We look like a very strong team. For me, why change?”

In the Premier League, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa lost 3-1 at Old Trafford, but Manchester United returned to winning ways in strong fashion.

But Carrick doesn’t let the noise distract him from his job. After another impressive victory, he told reporters: ”Isn’t there a lot of noise? I’m not talking about Wayne, in general. If you listen to it, it’s just noise.

“To be honest, it doesn’t affect me one bit. I’m in this position at the moment and I’m doing the best I can and obviously loving it and we’ll continue to strive for more.”

Carrick also confirmed that United remain an attractive club to join and would go a long way in the race to sign the midfield talent.

Manchester United sends officials to Irenki race

According to TeamTalk, Manchester United are currently sending officials to check on Caleb Ilenki, and the competition to sign the Norseland midfielder is intensifying.

Irenki, who was described as “outstanding” by talent scout Jacek Kulig last month, is the latest talent to graduate from the Right to Dream Academy, and he definitely won’t be the last.

The 20-year-old has attracted the attention of Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of what could be a competitive battle this summer, but the fact that he shares the same agency as Maynou at CAA Stella could ease talks with United.

The interest from Brighton shouldn’t come as much of a shock, but it looks like the top six are looking to get rid of midfielders and sign young talent before prices go up.
