  • Enzo Fernandes has impressed for Chelsea this season.
  • What’s next for the World Cup-winning midfielder?

The Champions League dream is officially over for Chelsea.

The atmosphere around Stamford Bridge has been quite somber since his red card against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

But even more uproar than the actual defeat was what Enzo Fernandes said immediately after the final whistle.

Speaking to ESPN about his future, the Argentine midfielder didn’t exactly give Chelsea fans the PR answer they were craving: “I’ll be here forever.”

“I don’t know, but there are eight games left and then it’s the FA Cup.” Enzo said, as reported by Ben Jacobs.

“Then there’s the World Cup, so we’ll see how it goes after that.”

Enzo Fernandes has impressed for Chelsea this season.

In fact, Enzo has been one of Chelsea’s brightest players this season. He has made great strides in adding an actual end product to the game.

The 25-year-old has already made 29 appearances in the Premier League, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.

Across all competitions, he has scored a very impressive 12 goals in the season and was able to get on the scoresheet against PSG in the first leg of this Champions League tie.

So it’s natural for a player in his prime to question whether his best years should endure yet another period of transition in west London, ahead of his big break with Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.

For now, Enzo is still wearing Chelsea blue. He has eight crucial league games left before jetting off to North America for the World Cup and needs to focus on qualifying for the FA Cup.

But what if he were to represent Argentina on the biggest stage this summer? Don’t be surprised if La Liga’s quiet whispers turn into very loud formal bids.

Chelsea may have to make some difficult decisions in the summer. With frequent managerial changes at the club and uncertainty over whether he will be able to win major honors in the future, Enzo could change direction if another big club comes calling.
