The Magpies may overhaul their squad following their below-average performance in the Premier League and this week’s humiliating Champions League exit to Barcelona.
According to iNews, Newcastle are looking to add four new players to Eddie Howe’s starting eleven: a goalkeeper, striker, right-back and midfielder.
It is not yet clear which names specifically could fill those roles, but there could be other changes as the report mentions speculation about the future of midfield duo Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle United need a strong transfer window
Newcastle could avoid another big name departure after the very messy saga involving Alexander Isak and his move to Liverpool last summer.
They will be hoping to avoid the same thing happening to Guimarães and Tonali, as it dragged on for much of the transfer window and caused much turmoil for Newcastle.
If they can keep their most important players and strengthen the four targets they want, things could look more positive at St James’ Park next season.
This NUFC project is promising, but the team still needs a lot of work to truly establish itself in the top four.
With the club likely not competing in the Champions League next season, it will be interesting to see what kind of talented players they can attract to the club now.
But at the same time, Newcastle have shown that they can compete and compete with Europe’s top clubs from time to time, which should convince some players that they are joining a strong project with a big future.
