Van de Ven has enjoyed a stellar spell at Spurs, but the club as a whole has endured two difficult seasons in a row, so it probably makes sense for the Dutch international to look for a move elsewhere.
Chelsea are also a little short on options at the back, so one imagines that Van de Ven could easily be brought in as an upgrade over the likes of Trevor Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Cole is a big fan of the 24-year-old and suspects he will be restless at Tottenham and move on to a new challenge.
Joe Cole wants Micky van de Ven to join Chelsea
Speaking on the Dressing Room podcast, Cole said:Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven. I think he looks like he wants to leave. I think he will be a great addition to Chelsea.”
It will be interesting to see what happens with Van de Ven in the coming weeks and months, but a lot of that will no doubt depend on whether Spurs get relegated.
The North Londoners currently sit just one point above the bottom three and could well be dragged there in the final few games.
If Tottenham were to fall into the Championship, it is certainly difficult to imagine a player of Van de Ven’s caliber remaining there.
