Matt Fitzpatrick’s tenacity paid off Sunday as he won his third career tour title at the Valspar Championship.

The 31-year-old British player made a disappointing bogey on No. 18 at last week’s Players Championship to take second place, and entered the final round with a three-stroke lead over third-round Valspar Championship leader Sung-jae Lim.

But after Yim fell behind with a 74 in the final round, Fitzpatrick put the pedal to the metal, firing a bogey-free round of 3-under 68 and winning by one stroke over David Lipsky.

Fitzpatrick clinched the victory with a birdie on the 18th hole. Under pressure, Fitzpatrick drove a 303-yard drive down the middle of the fairway, setting up a 116-yard approach and closing it to 14 feet before sinking the putt.

Fitzpatrick’s driver, the Titleist GT3, has become a real weapon for him in recent years.

“By optimizing his movement and relying on the high-speed technology of the Titleist GT3, he has climbed the distance charts and is now averaging over 300 yards off the tee,” writes GOLF Director of Gear Johnny Wonder. “The counterbalanced Mitsubishi Orange shaft is the secret sauce here. It allows you to swing with aggressive intent while maintaining the face angle control needed to thread the needle into the snake pit.”

Titleist’s GT3 driver features five possible weight positions (H2, H1, N, T1, T2) that move the center of gravity closer to a golfer’s ball-striking position tendencies. This club is designed for players who want more control over the ball and shot shape.

GT3 – Speed Tuned Distance and Control The GT3 offers Titleist’s boldest combination of power and personality. A speed-tuned design that allows you to precisely match performance to where you touch it most often, giving you full control over your flight and shape while giving you even more maximum drive. For players with relatively stable impact locations, GT3 offers a precisely adjustable CG track to maximize distance and directional control. Seamless Thermofoam Crown A re-imagined ultra-lightweight design derived from a new proprietary matrix polymer. The tunable acoustic properties of this unique composite material allow Titleist engineers to deliver new material improvements while maintaining the signature sound and feel. Everything is wrapped in a clean look that inspires complete confidence. Split Mass Construction A breakthrough in internal weighting allows for longer drives and enhanced directional control in the GT3. The adjustable CG track is placed closer to the face for more dynamic CG control, and any additional mass is pushed into the rear of the club to maintain optimal stability during impact. Advanced Aerodynamics The GT3 features a new raised tail profile that represents a dramatic change in driver aerodynamics. This advanced geometry, previously unachievable due to design constraints, results in a driver that swings faster while providing optimal center of gravity control.
