Newcastle United won the domestic trophy last season and qualified for the Champions League.

Eddie Howe’s future is up for debate

The Express reports that club executives will carry out a key performance review at the end of the season to decide on the future of the manager and coaching staff. Newcastle haven’t been at their best this season and their new players haven’t been able to produce results. It remains to be seen whether the coach will be able to keep his job beyond this season.

Newcastle recently suffered a heavy defeat to Barcelona and also lost to Sunderland in the derby. The derby defeat has particularly dented morale among the fan base, and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle can bounce back strongly.

Newcastle manager Howe recently admitted that PSR rules are having an impact on the club’s transfer business and that the departure of key players such as Alexander Isak is costing the team dearly.

Howe on Newcastle struggle

Howe said: “The rules make it very difficult for (clubs) to build up the momentum they had in the beginning.

“I don’t know how to break that system. You have to follow set rules and clubs really want to be ambitious, but there are limits to how much they can spend.

“It has a ripple effect on everything we do. I don’t know of a team that doesn’t suffer from that by not recruiting players in as many spots. We certainly do, but losing Alexander Isak last summer was quite a blow. But we can’t feel sorry for ourselves again or make excuses.”

“Despite all these circumstances, we have to find a way to succeed. But to do that, we have to understand the kind of situation we are in.”

Regarding rumors surrounding his future, the manager insists he remains focused on the job at hand and has no intention of resigning and leaving the job.

It will likely be up to the owner to decide whether he will leave after the season ends. There is no doubt that he is a quality manager who has underperformed in recent months. It remains to be seen whether they are prepared to stick with him beyond this season.
