Romano revealed on Instagram that Rodri has yet to agree a new contract with Man City, putting his future in some doubt.

This comes after the Spain international himself spoke out and hinted that he would be open to playing for Real Madrid at some point in the future.

It remains to be seen whether Los Blancos are indeed keen on signing Rodri, but he is one of the best in the world in his position in this day and age, and it is easy to imagine that he might be keen to return to La Liga.

Rodri is open to a move to Real Madrid despite remaining at Atlético Madrid

Rodri has made it clear he has no problem playing for Real, despite spending time with rivals Atlético earlier in his career.

The 29-year-old started his senior career at Villarreal, but spent time in Atleti’s youth organization and one season as a professional before moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2019.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Rodri said of City’s future:“I have one year left on my contract, and there will come a time when we will have to sit down and talk.

“There are other players who have followed that path[between the two Madrid clubs]. Not directly, but over time. You can’t turn down the best club in the world. They have taken that path.”

“I want to go back (to La Liga), of course. For me, La Liga is the starting point. I’m still chasing it, although not as much as before. But now I’m very happy here (in the Premier League).”

Real Madrid are expected to sell Eduardo Camavinga this summer, which could put them on the market for someone like Rodri to replace him in a midfield position.
