Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with drunk driving during a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday afternoon. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods had a 0.00 warning on a breathalyzer administered to him, but he “showed signs of impairment” at the scene and later refused a urine test.

Police said the accident happened around 2 p.m. ET near 281 South Beach Road.

A pickup truck with a pressure washer on its trailer was heading north and was turning into a driveway when the driver noticed a Land Rover speeding toward him, Budensiek said. The truck was unable to avoid the collision in time, and as Woods’ Land Rover tried to swerve in a narrow attempt to avoid the collision, it clipped the rear end of the trailer and overturned onto the driver’s side.

Neither driver was injured at the scene, and there were no other passengers in the vehicle. Woods was taken to the Martin County Jail and arrested on charges of DUI with criminal damage to property and refusing to submit to a legal test. He will be held for at least eight hours, as required by Florida law.

Woods, 50, crawled out of the passenger door of the car, but police initially noticed signs of impairment. He described a series of injuries and surgeries to officers and also underwent a “detailed roadside examination.”

“He was lethargic at the scene, which we believe was because he was intoxicated,” Budensiek said, clarifying that Woods “was not impaired by alcohol, but rather by some type of drug or narcotic.”
