  • Beckham praises Michael Carrick as Manchester United’s best manager of the past decade
  • Michael Carrick’s impressive track record as a director

Manchester United legend David Beckham has given his full backing to Michael Carrick as the club’s next permanent manager, claiming the interim manager has brought a level of stability not seen in a decade.

Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim in January 2026, oversaw a dramatic change in form that took United from sixth to third in the Premier League table.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Beckham admitted that watching his former club has become a much more enjoyable experience since Carrick’s appointment.

Beckham’s support has been emphatic, suggesting that the “calmness” instilled by Carrick is the club’s greatest asset as they aim to qualify for the Champions League.

When asked about the changes under the former midfielder, he said:

“Well, to be honest, the last few months have been much better than the last 10 years, even though it was tough.

“But I think Michael has experience. I think he’s calmed down by being brought into the club. He knows the club, he knows the players, he knows how Man United play and he knows how Man United play.”

“I’ve always liked Michael as a coach. There’s a calmness when you watch him. Even on that side of the pitch, I don’t want to call it elegance. I don’t know if that’s the right thing to say, but there’s an elegance in the way he is, whether it’s the way he celebrates or the way he gets angry.

“You know, all of those things are important to a manager. And I think the way he brought the team together and brought the team together was incredible. And as a United fan, I think that’s exactly what we needed.”

The statistics since the coaching change on January 13 support Beckham’s glowing reviews.

Carrick has been in charge of 10 Premier League games, securing seven wins and two draws, with just one defeat.

The losing streak took United 23 points from a potential 30 points, a stark contrast to the instability that plagued the first half of the season.

Man United’s performance under Michael Carrick

Under Carrick’s guidance, United are averaging 2.30 points per game and are currently six points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool.

United’s bosses had originally planned to wait until the summer to appoint a permanent replacement, but Carrick remains adamant that he will become the club’s next permanent manager.
