Manchester United are reportedly set to break their transfer record this summer when they sign a new midfielder.
Manchester World reports that Manchester United have as many as eight players on their list, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson said to be a dream target.

The Red Devils are also keeping an eye on Adam Wharton, Carlos Bareva, Sandro Tonali, Angelo Stiller, Joao Gomez, Matheus Fernandes and Alex Scott.
We recently ranked Man United’s midfield targets, but the list reported changes slightly from time to time.
But overall, it seems clear that Anderson and Wharton are by far the best options for the club’s needs at the moment.
Manchester United preparing for a busy summer
It will be interesting to see how much money MUFC end up spending this summer, but they seem ready to go all out to sign a real game-changer in midfield.
The money is also likely to be funded through major sales, with Sky Sports recently reporting that the club are aiming to secure around £100m from the departures of Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund.
We saw United spend big on an entirely new front three last summer with the arrivals of Brian Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesco, and it looks like that big investment could now go into a new midfield.
Manchester United’s new midfield
At United, Casemiro is nearing the end of his contract and will be leaving Old Trafford this summer, but with Manuel Ugarte’s poor form, there is certainly a possibility of him leaving.
Perhaps that means United ultimately need to sign more than one player on their list, but that could be difficult with other clubs also having many of the same players on the market.
For example, our understanding is that Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City are also interested in Anderson, but with Wolves likely to be relegated, the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle are eyeing Gomez.
