Spurs sit just one point above the relegation zone and will be hoping that De Zerbi, who replaces the hapless Igor Tudor, can turn things around.
According to Alasdair Gold, a key step for De Zerbi is to bring Bentancur back into the squad after his injury problems.
The Uruguay international is now expected to be fit and available again, which could give Tottenham’s team a chance to turn things around by bringing him on board.
“I have a weird feeling that he’s going to like Rodrigo Bentancur too,” Gold said on his YouTube channel.
“And again, I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but from a tactical and possession-based football point of view, yes he’s a bit shaky with his passing, but in reality, as a player who’s used to being in the heart of a Juventus team that won three Serie A titles, I think he’ll adapt very well.”
Tottenham relegation match results
Tottenham are in terrible form at the moment, failing to win a single Premier League game under Tudor and only picking up one point from a draw with Liverpool.
The addition of De Zerbi should give the team a boost, but there are still difficult games ahead…
April 12 – Sunderland (A)
April 18 – Brighton (H)
April 25 – Wolves (A)
May 2 – Aston Villa (A)
May 11 – Leeds (H)
May 17 – Chelsea (A)
May 24 – Everton (H)
De Zerbi has a tough job on his hands and needs an experienced player to step up in his place, and Bentancur is definitely one of them.
