‘They have to go’ – Pep Guardiola sends clear transfer message to Man City stars

Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola has made it clear that he wants Rodri to stay, but if he is not satisfied he will have to leave.

The Spanish tactician said this in a press conference on Friday when asked about Rodri’s recent comments that he is open to joining Real Madrid.

Guardiola did not blame Rodri for not ruling out a move to Madrid, but suggested he would not be able to stay unless he settled at the Etihad Stadium.

Watch below as Guardiola praises Rodri as an “incredible” player, but tells him in no uncertain terms that he should knock on the club’s sporting director’s door if he wants the sale resolved…

What Fabrizio Romano said about Rodri’s transfer situation

Fabrizio Romano provided some insight into Rodri’s situation on his YouTube channel, but it seems like it’s still pretty open.

The 29-year-old has been mooted as a target for Real, but City, who ideally would like to keep him, have also offered him a new contract.

“The important point here is that Rodri, at this point in time, and for the rest of his football career, there are two ways to decide whether he wants to stay and whether he ultimately wants to sign a new contract or plan to leave Man City,” Romano said.

“So what he said about Real Madrid was very strong. Obviously there is an evaluation from Real Madrid. So we are certainly discussing Rodri internally at Real Madrid and it is an option for Real Madrid. But at the moment there is still no bid and there are no direct negotiations between the clubs for Rodri.”

“But what does that mean? As I understand it, Rodri has already received a new contract offer from Manchester City. So Man City have offered Rodri a new contract and they are prepared to give him a significant salary.”

Romano added that Rodri needs to decide whether to stay for another year, stay and sign a new contract, or leave for the Bernabéu.

Given how important Rodri has been to City in recent years, the club have already struggled since Kevin De Bruyne’s departure last year, and with Bernardo Silva and John Stones both due to be out of contract at the end of this season, they will certainly want to avoid leaving this summer.
