María Jose Marin becomes the first Colombian to win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur after missing the cut a year ago

María Jose Marin started the first day of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in first place and won by four points.

The 19-year-old Arkansas junior from Cali, Colombia, was a solid favorite to tee off in the final two matches at Augusta National Golf Club, but it was 17-year-old Asterisk Talley who emerged victorious in Saturday’s match.

Talley was bogey-free after two rounds at Champions Retreat Golf Club. She was a runner-up in 2025, and in her third appearance, it seemed like it was finally time to contribute to Stanford.

But after making three birdies in the first nine holes, Talley’s bogey-free streak ended in devastating fashion.

The bogey on the par-4 11th was something you could easily make up for with two more par-5s, but what about the quadruple bogey on the par-3 12th? Will it fall to 9 under? It’s almost impossible to come back from there.

Mullin wasn’t waiting on his sleeve for Talley to fail, he just played two rounds of good, clean golf and came to Augusta National with a plan. An early bogey could have derailed him, but he went on to make five birdies and only had one more bogey.

Part of that plan included choosing an Augusta National caddy, something the other two leaders who participated that day did not.

After two rounds at Champions Retreat and one round at Augusta National, he finished with a 4-under 68 in the final round for a total of 14 under. This is the lowest score in Augusta National Women’s Amateur history.

“This means the world to me,” said Marin, who became the first Colombian to win at this course.

She was also the only player in the field to shoot in the 60s for all three rounds.

It didn’t happen right away. This was Marin’s fourth appearance in the tournament. She was T-14 in 2023, T-30 in 2024, and missed the cut in 2025.

Mullin has made strides this past year, becoming the third individual NCAA champion from Arkansas. She became the third NCAA champion to win the tournament at the home of the Masters, joining Jennifer Kupcho (2019) and Rose Chan (2023).

Stanford sophomore Andrea Revuelta finished the final round with a 4-under 68 to take second place at 10 under. The Spaniard made six birdies on the day, including one on the dangerous par-3 12th. He almost became the fourth ace in Hall history..

South Korea’s Oh Soo-min finished alone in third place with nine under par and was the only player to get a clean card at Augusta National, posting a four-under 68, including four birdies.

Talley finished T-4 in the group with a total of 8 under. After the quad bogey, Talley had two birdies, one bogey and one double bogey to finish the day with a 3-over 75.
