  • Juventus join Inter Milan in race to sign Guglielmo Vicario
  • Tottenham open to selling Vicario while planning De Zerbi

Inter Milan are preparing to accelerate their pursuit of Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with the Italian international emerging as a key target to become the club’s long-term number one.

The Nerazzurri are actively searching for a replacement for 37-year-old veteran goalkeeper Jan Sommer, who is expected to move into a back-up role for the 2026/27 season.

According to a report from CalcioMercato.it, Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has been keeping a close eye on Vicario and is now ready to move ahead of rival clubs in his bid to sign him.

Vicario is currently worth between €15m and €20m (£12.5m – £17m) and Inter believe this is a cost-effective deal for the goalkeeper, who has proven himself in the Premier League since joining Spurs from Empoli in 2023.

Inter are not the only ones interested, with Juventus also identifying Vicario as a key target this summer.

The Turin giants are looking to step up competition for Michele Di Gregorio, with reports claiming they have already held initial talks with Vicario’s representatives.

With Tottenham currently fighting near the relegation zone, the 29-year-old is thought to be open to a return to Serie A, especially with the aim of increasing his chances of establishing himself in the Italian national team.

Tottenham open to selling Vicario while planning De Zerbi

Tottenham could allow Vicario to leave this summer as part of a wide-ranging tactical overhaul under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The Italian coach is expected to put more emphasis on the placement of goalkeepers and introduce a system that prioritizes play from the back.

Vicario impresses as a shot-stopper, but his reported passing accuracy of 69% may raise concerns about his suitability for De Zerbi’s style.

As a result, Spurs are monitoring alternative options such as Brighton goalkeeper Bert Verbruggen and Manchester City’s James Trafford.

Selling Vicario would give Tottenham the financial flexibility they need to sign a goalkeeper better suited to De Zerbi’s high-risk, build-up-oriented approach.
