Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said the club are keen to sign Nottingham Forest central midfielder Elliott Anderson.
The pundit named Anderson as a priority target over the likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães, saying the England international could be the perfect complement to Coby Mainu.

Ferdinand praised Anderson’s aggressive and all-round style of play on his YouTube channel.
Rio Ferdinand talks about Elliott Anderson’s transfer
“That’s Elliott Anderson. He’s 23 years old, Guimarães is 28, Tonali is 25 and he’s almost 26, so that’s very important to me. I want to have young, hungry players in my team.”
“He complements Maynou. I think Coby is going to be one of the main players on the team and we’ll grow around him, and I think Elliott Anderson will definitely complement him.”
“They’re different. Anderson has the mobility, he has the energy to move around the park, he’s aggressive, we need those legs and he gets the ball. He’s more competitive than the other two.”
Manchester United decide to facilitate the transfer of Elliott Anderson
Anderson makes sense as an ideal target in United’s midfield, and despite previous talk of Manchester City being the frontrunners, there are also suggestions that Anderson is firmly in the race to sign him.
BBC Sport suggested United would not give up their battle with City for the 23-year-old, but Florian Plettenberg posted the following about MCFC being more focused on signing Rodri…
Even if City become an attractive destination for Anderson after their recent success, playing time at City could also be worth considering if they remain keen to keep Rodri.
The Spain international is likely to remain the first choice of Josep Guardiola’s side, so it might be better for Andersson to join MUFC and build the squad around him.
