  • Villans consider low-cost reinforcements despite making £17m profit
  • Villa in good position to sign ‘excellent’ player
        • Aston Villa enter race for £26m to sign dominant star player

Aston Villa are knocking on the door to sign a ‘quality’ player who could be acquired on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Villans consider low-cost reinforcements despite making £17m profit

Villa released their 2024/25 financial results late last month, showing they had made a profit of £17m after tax, with former chief executive Chris Heck suggesting they are now in a much stronger position financially.

Supporter posted on: “These are strong accounts. Villa have turned a corner financially. Record top line, first profit in a while, big but targeted investment in the future and real PSR flexibility for the next period. No more ‘we have to flog Watkins or Rodgers’ nonsense at the end of every season. The club is in a much healthier position than it was 12 to 18 months ago.”

To this, Heck replied: “It was a great success. We need to spend wisely to continue this huge undertaking.”

The fact that the Villans may not be forced to make key signings this summer will be welcome news for manager Unai Emery, who will no doubt be hoping that a healthier financial position will allow him to strengthen his side this summer.

However, despite the recent encouraging news, NSWE continue to plan aggressively for the summer, with updates on the signings of players currently set to be available on free transfers.

Villa in good position to sign ‘excellent’ player

According to reports from Spain (via Sport Witness), Celta Vigo are desperate to extend Oscar Mingueza’s contract, with the player’s current contract set to expire this summer, with the Spanish side offering him the equivalent of an annual salary of 4 million euros (approximately 350 million yen).

However, Aston Villa are now in a strong position to make a deal, having shown significant interest in Mingueza for several months, alongside Premier League rivals West Ham United, with the paper claiming that a move to England could be on the cards.

Newcastle United and a number of clubs across Europe are also keen to sign the right-back, who was hailed as a “fantastic” player by journalist Sid Lowe.

No Celta Vigo player has provided more assists in La Liga this season (4) than the former Barcelona player, but he has averaged 2.0 tackles per 90, which is slightly higher than Matty Cash’s Premier League average (1.9).

Aston Villa enter race for £26m to sign dominant star player

The Villains are keen to acquire “interesting” players.

Andres García has struggled with injuries for much of this season and is finding it difficult to make a name for himself at Aston Villa, so adding more depth at right-back would be a good idea, and Mingueza could be a smart addition to the squad on a free transfer.
